Named one of “today's strongest emerging talents in literary fiction and poetry” by Anis Shivani from the Huffington Post, Sybil is the author of two books of fiction. Her linked collection, Talismans, traces one woman’s journey from Virginia to South Korea to Southeast Asia. Her debut novel The Life Plan has been called “a screwball comedy for the 21st century, a witty and winning romp through one woman's discovery that life, love, and liberty do not always go according to plan.” Her novel Into This World will be published by Engine Books in May 2012. Sybil received her MFA in creative writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She spent twelve years teaching in South Korea before returning to the States in 2007. During her extensive travels throughout Asia, she became increasingly interested in the allure and alienation of American travelers and expatriates, and this has heavily influenced her writing. She lives in Chattanooga, TN, with her husband and is currently an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and on the faculty at the City University of Hong Kong's low residency MFA program. She is Fiction Editor at Drunken Boat. |
